Just opening this image sends cold chills down my spine!!
First, I think the DOF is good for such magnification. Technically, this is a superb job with a tough, fast moving subject. It is definitely an very interesting perspective for a wasp and I like it. The only thing I might do would crop off some of the dead space, but not too tightly. Let the background show some depth without being so large.
You've captured good detail in the eyes, the hairs and even some texture in the wing, great job there!
Color doesn't play as big a part in this shot as it does with many others but that isn't a bad thing. It is not striking but the tones are worm and well balanced.
Overall I think this is just another excellent shot from you! Congrats!

Capturing a hornet in flight, eyes in focus... awesome. The background colours fit well to the hornet, and the light / shadow divisin, with the hornet coming out of the shadow into the light... simply amazing!

Is that a normal hornet from around here? Looks like the huge Japanese version. :| A lot... I thought the huge ones only live there.... :\

Brrr... Although they are beautiful, I really don't like hornets... Too big, too... annoying, agressive and... and they bite!
But this photo is awesome ;)

:wow: Awesome. The biggest hornets here in Kansas are ground hornets; they're not much smaller, but they're also not very aggressive.

This is a very impressive shot. I don't know how anyone manages to catch insects in mid-air. Must take lots of time and patience, and a bit of luck.:)
